BRUNO GETS HELP FROM THE ANIMAL FAIRY

Animal Fairy Charities Helps Bruno with Medical Expenses

and to Find His Forever Home

MILWAUKEE, WI – Animal Fairy Charities (AFC) brings awareness of Bruno’s story to help raise needed funds for the extensive care and recovery he desperately needs. Bruno, a critically injured and abandoned puppy from Chicago, is in Milwaukee for the therapy required to save his life, allow him to recover the feeling and use of his lower extremities and enable him to walk.

Due to acute injuries suffered after his birth, Bruno was unable to use his back legs and completely unable to walk, pulling himself around using only his front legs. Because his owners didn’t want the expense of time or money to care for him, they took him away from his mother prematurely and discarded him in an alley. At approximately four weeks of age, he found himself completely alone and his new home, a garbage dump. When Bruno was discovered, he was taken to Chicago Animal Control, where a volunteer took his picture and posted it on Facebook in a plea to find a rescue. Through the mass public attention he gained, Bruno was taken in by Castaway Pet Rescue, Inc. www.castawaypetrescue.org, a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer-based rescue, which cares for and provides medical treatment to homeless dogs. Bruno’s Facebook fans grew to 5,000 in a short time and he is currently in a loving foster home, which is trying to give him a chance at life. Despite his severe disabilities, his inability to urinate, and the vet initially delivering solemn news for his recovery or rehabilitation, his foster family and the rescue community are determined not to give up on him. His foster dad made him a wheelchair, and through daily therapy treatments, such as acupuncture and care from a vet who specializes in problems like Bruno’s, he is responding, and can now urinate and wag his tail. With extensive treatment, he is expected to make a full recovery and walk one day, however, the therapy he needs is expensive, and he needs your help.

"I was lucky enough to meet Bruno while filming a segment for Animal Advocate Television (AATV) www.animaladvocatetv.com," says Lopez. "This guy is currently with a foster mom with Castaway Pet Rescue, Inc. but will need a forever home. It is still undetermined if Bruno will ever be able to regain his strength in his lower body that would enable him to walk and/or have feeling in his lower extremities. AFC was so inspired by Bruno that we will be dedicating our premier 2012 season of AATV to him in an effort to raise funds for his medical care and to find Bruno his forever home.” Lopez added.

AFC is also offering prints of Bruno, courtesy of Brittany Farina , a talented and up-and-coming artist from Wisconsin in which 50% of all proceeds will be used to help with his medical costs.

Animal Fairy Charities is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization that raises awareness and distributes funds in support of the missions of other animal non-profit organizations, in addition to educating and engaging children through positive interaction with animals.

October 5, 2011— “Hector,” one of the 47 Pit Bulls rescued from Michael Vick’s dog fighting operation made a special appearance at the “Strut Your Mutt” event at the Waukesha County Expo Center on September 25^th hosted by Brew City Bully Club and Elmbrook Humane Society.

Hector was one of NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s victims of cruelty as a fighting dog. The dogs were rescued and given a chance to live and Hector is now happy and living life to the fullest as a certified therapy dog.

At the Strut Your Mutt event, Hector and other rescue dogs painted to help animal rescues. Hector did 3 paintings for Animal Fairy Charities and two have already been sold! All paintings created by “Hector” and the other rescue dogs at this event were done courtesy of While You Were Out Pet Sitting Service, LLC “Painting For Pets By Pets Art Project. “

The 3^rd Annual Wisconsin Week for Animals is taking place August 13^th - 21^st. Throughout the week educational institutions, animal shelters, rescue groups and humane organizations will be hosting wonderful animal –related special events. We will be joining in to celebrate and help the animals in communities everywhere.

At Animal Fairy Charities we educate and engage children to be compassionate through the positive interaction with animals. I think it is great that we will be able to take part in the 3^rd Annual Wisconsin Week for Animals along with so many other great agencies. Members of Rescue Ink give a thumbs up to the Animal Fairy book and author Shelley Abrams at the Crossings Animal Sanctuary 2nd Annual Tail Waggers Strut.

Animal Fairy Charities kicked-off a book signing at the 2nd annual Tail Waggers Strut with 40% of all proceeds going to The Crossings Animal Sanctuary to help fund their building. The Crossings Animal Sanctuary is slated to become the first No-Kill animal sanctuary in Bucks County, PA.

Rescue Ink were named Honorary Chairpersons of the event. They have been featured on the National Geographic Channel for saving and providing veterinary assistance to some of the most abused and neglected pets in New York.
The event was a success and a great day was had by everyone. Animal Fairy Charities was delighted to be a part of it!

As a rescue or shelter, we know how tough it can be to find good foster and/or forever homes for some of our companion animals. Exposure is very important but many rescue organizations and shelters cannot afford to advertise. Many of you have contacted us to get on the show and we have featured some of you and will continue to feature as many of you as we can. In the meantime, we have come up with a way to help you get more exposure.

If you are a Rescue, Animal Shelter or Humane Society, we can help you get more exposure! For a small yearly membership fee, you will receive a listing right here, receive updates on the show via our monthly newsletters and best of all, we will be promoting our "Fostering and Adoption" Network on Animal Advocate Television each week.

Finally, on a personal note, we hear many stories like the one below however, I cannot convey how much Snoops story has touched my life. Snoop was a helpless puppy with no voice who depended on humans to care for him.

We, as a country, must stand together and ask our leaders to implement required reading and mandatory educational classes to help teach our children compassion
and empathy at an early age.

Yardley, PA April 22, 2011 in her debut children’s book, author and local resident Shelley Abrams will be signing the new children’s book, “The Animal Fairy” at this year’s 2nd Annual Tail Waggers Strut on Sunday May 15th 2011 at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley, PA with 40% of all proceeds from sales of the book being donated to The Crossings Animal Sanctuary to help build Bucks County’s first no-kill animal sanctuary.

An avid animal lover, Abrams was inspired by The Crossings Animal Sanctuary’s goal to build Bucks County’s first no-kill animal sanctuary and participated herself in the Tail Waggers Strut last year. Abrams was all set to walk for the cause again this year when she received a call from The Crossings Animal Sanctuary to participate in a book signing once they learned she was a local resident of Yardley, PA.

“The Animal Fairy” written by Shelley Abrams and illustrated by Susie Weber introduces a new loveable creature who is empowered to help animals.

“It’s a very exciting concept and I’m thrilled to be involved by writing his story”, said Shelley Abrams, author of the book. “Helping children learn about animals in need is a dream come true and a story that must be told”, Abrams added.

“Kids Can, Too!” will be part of Tail Waggers Strut and will entail a 2-mile walk for elementary school children. This walk aims to teach young children the value of community service and that they can accomplish great things through positive action.

Animal Fairy Charities, Inc. seeks to promote compassion amongst children and is asking Bucks County and the surrounding areas for their support on May 15th, 2011. Author Shelley Abrams will be signing copies of The Animal Fairy. She will discuss what it means to see the book in parents and children’s hands. Dialogue is encouraged and parents are encouraged to bring their children.

About The Author
As a lifelong animal lover, Shelley Abrams was enchanted when first introduced to the Animal Fairy Character and embraced the idea when asked to author his story. Dogs, cats and horses have remained a constant in Shelley's life. In 2004, she bought her first race horse and created Smarty’s Gift Stables. Realizing that many thoroughbreds needed a second chance after their racing days were over, Smarty’s Gift Stables launched a program that has rescued and helped to rehome dozens of horses. The Crossings Animal Sanctuary, will host the 2nd Annual Tail Waggers’ Strut dog walk festival at Shady Brook Farm on Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. The proceeds will be used exclusively to acquire land, build, and operate Bucks County’s first no-kill animal sanctuary.

Last year’s Tail Waggers Strut brought over 800 walkers and raised $65,000.This year’s goal is 1,000 walkers with their 4-legged companions, who will help raise $100,000 for the Sanctuary Building Fund.

At the festival field at Shady Brook Farm, the staging area for The Strut, over 100 vendors will exhibit pet products and services, crafts, and jewelry. A food court will offer lunch, snacks, and desserts. Special events will occur throughout the day, featuring dog training and agility demonstrations; magicians, balloon making, and face painting for the kids; and a special “Blessing of the Animals.”

This year’s festival will introduce a SuperAdoption event. Local rescue organizations will bring over 100 dogs and cats available for adoption. As a result of this one-day event, 50-75 pets will hopefully find loving, forever homes.

Three weeks prior to the Tail Waggers Strut, on April 20, Bucks County area restaurants will host "Appetite for Saving Animals", a dinner hour fundraiser. Participating restaurants donate a portion of their evening’s revenue to CAS’ Sanctuary Building Fund.

The Tail Waggers Strut will include a 2-mile walk for elementary school children, called "Kids Can, Too!". In addition to raising money for the no-kill sanctuary, its is to teach young children the value of community service and that they can accomplish great things through positive action. Students can walk as a school team of 50 or more, can create teams of 10-15 kids, or can walk with an adult.

Adults and teens can walk as individuals or participate in teams of 10-15, or can walk as a Family of 2 or more. Prizes will be awarded for the individuals and teams in each age group/category that raise the most pledge money.

Book Character Teaches Compassion to Children Regarding Care and Handling of Animals

MILWAUKEE, WI – Animal Fairy Charities, Inc., with a mission to foster national and international prevention of cruelty to all animals and aid in their safety and welfare, announced that The Animal Fairy, the title character in an October 2010 book designed to teach compassion to children, will make an appearance at the 2011 Great Lakes Pet Expo,Sat., Feb. 5, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park.

The Animal Fairy, written by Shelley Abrams and illustrated by Susie Weber and the first of a series of children’s books published by Animal Fairy Charities, teaches children lessons of kindness and compassion for all living creatures that will stay with them for a lifetime. The title character will be at the Great Lakes Pet Expo in booth 803 signing copies of the book, plus taking photos with children and parents. Proceeds from the book sales will help feed, shelter, transport, and provide medical care to animals.

Updates on Jim and Cindy (H.O.R.S.E., Inc.)

Animal Fairy Charities would like to thank everyone who sent well wishes and donations to help support our "Emergency Mission" to help Jim and Cindy at H.O.R.S.E. Inc.

Because of your support, we were able to send out an "Emergency Grant" to pay for the remaining horses boarding fee's, and miscellaneous items such as hay, feed and medical.

I speak with Jim and Cindy daily and it just amazes me how ordinary people can become extraordinary in a time of such tragedy.

As Jim and Cindy at H.O.R.S.E, Inc continue to rebuild and reorganize, they have some immediate goals they would like to accomplish. WHO WILL RESCUE THE RESCUERS?

December 1, 2010

If you haven’t yet read it, look up the article in Friday’s Nov. 26, 2010 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. But consider yourself warned… get out your Kleenex.

In short, a barn owned by Cindy and Jim Bondowski burned down. What makes this barn and these people special is this: it housed many horses abandoned by their owners due to sickness, injuries, or hardship (a ‘rescue’). It also housed some of Cindy and Jim’s favorite, cherished, special, valuable and dearly loved personal horses. Eight of those being the ‘minis’; miniature horses specially bred. Jim told me his dream was for them was to be the “mini Budwiser team.To talk to them about those minis is to talk to someone who has lost a child (8 of them). Tiny, helpless, beautiful little ‘horsies’… babies. Regardless, they are now with all the other poor creatures of God that never made it out of that blazing, chaotic inferno.

Yesterday I traveled out to the Bondowski’s farm on a cold, breezy, and even snow-flurried day. The sky was gray and unforgiving. The weather actually matched the sad, depressing event of which I was to observe the aftermath. I had attempted to prepare myself for the devastation I was about to enter into. We in Wisconsin pass by old farms and barns in all our travels. We pretty much take them in stride. We are, after all, the Dairy State. Unless you’re a writer or photographer these barns and silos hold no particular interest for you other than being aesthetically pleasing in an artsy kind of way. But what I observed was neither pleasing nor artsy. And there would be no preparing for it. It was simply heartbreakingly, horrifyingly, tragic. My imagination ran wild at the thought of these giant terror stricken animals full of frenzied panic and confusion, desperately seeking escape. I could easily launch into a detailed, sickening description of burnt out stables, falling ceilings, nothingness where stalls and equipment once dwelled, but I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Jim himself, toured the burnt out carnage with me and tearfully described what I will always remember as the most devastating scene of lost beauty and life that I have ever experienced. (As a side note, I’ve been an E.M.T. in Milwaukee for almost 8 years, some of that spent in an E.R.)

The heroism of Cindy and Jim is obvious; they risked their very lives for their 4-legged creatures of God that so many of us take for granted. Cindy spent her Thanksgiving dragging out dead horse carcasses through the back door to place in a pile of the same. (Upon my arrival, the victims of the blaze were loaded onto a truck, currently pulling out of the driveway). They received help from a relative and a friend, while Jim was hospitalized, begging to be released to go back to the farm and help his wife and their horses. In my world, the word ‘selfless’ doesn’t even begin to describe the Bondowskis!

Bottom line #1: The Bondowskis are focusing on relocating their rescue and are currently searching for a new farm to lease to buy. They’d like to stay in WI but told me even if the property was on the border of WI/IL that it would be okay. A phone number and website will be furnished at the end of this article. They desperately need our help NOW!

Bottom line #2: There are 11 horses (survivors) that are up for immediate adoption/fostering. They range in years and breeds, male and female, trained to ride and untrained, under a vet’s care and healthy. I took pictures and brief histories of each survivor. These horses were amazingly calm, friendly and seemingly unaffected by the devastating tragedy that has befallen them.

I am forever changed by my little excursion out to this unfortunate horse rescue farm that, for some unknown reason, has suffered one of the greatest tragedies that can befall this planet. The sad, senseless, horrific loss of some of God’s most beautiful creatures… His horses.

If you do nothing more this holiday season, please remember these poor, unfortunate people that are truly doing God’s work. They need supplies, food and caring foster and/or adoptive ‘parents’ for the surviving horses. Lastly, they need a new place to continue the amazing work they do…. Save horses!

Horses Parish in Barn Fire

When I received the call from Cindy Bondowski that she had lost 24 horses in a barn fire this morning, I couldn't stop thinking "why?"

I realize there are heartbreaking tragedies everyday that affect people all over the world but I just couldn't stop thinking about Cindy's loss.

You see? Cindy and Jim are some of the most caring people I have ever met. They both have a profound love for animals who work their horse rescue 24/7 to save horses, retrain them and then find good homes for them.

I visited Cindy and Jim and met many of the horses who perished in Wednesday's barn fire.

Cindy could hardly speak when we chatted but I could understand clearly when she said, "I rescued them and worked hard to save them and to give them a better life, and I lost them."

I can only imagine the pain that Cindy and Jim are enduring as they grieve for their horses at this very moment... that said, my thoughts and prayers will be with them for quite awhile.

Animal Fairy Charities pays tribute to Jim and Cindy for all of their tireless efforts to help horses in need. We can only hope that they will find the strength to rebuild and to recommit their lives to the passion that gave them so much love in return.

As a kindergarten teacher I love to have a variety of books on hand as I teach children about the wonderful world of literature.

We have a growing classroom library and children are able to select high interest books to add to their book boxes for read to self time every day.

I have alot of children who are quite interested in animals so introducing this book will be a big hit. I can also use it to teach both social/emotional skills and text to world connections.

It is important for children to be taught about how to treat not only people, but animals and our environment too. I can envision having a science type discussion about what animals need to survive and adding love to the list. This could can then branch into a discussion on how we show love to love, to environment, and to animals.

During February or "kindness month" as we often refer to it as, we cater our themes around love. This book could help us talk about how to show love to homeless pets and instead of collecting donations for area food pantries or holding a clothing drive, our class could collect items for the animal shelter.

Teaching children the art of giving is a priceless gift that some don't get to see modeled in their own homes enough. What a great lesson to be shared. Overall the possibilities are really quite abundant at how to incorporate The Animal Fairy into a classroom. It's a good book to add to any classroom library because it's a book that talks about something unique, is a topic that many children love to talk about, and is a book that can be enjoyed for many years!

There is a new children’s book set to be released this month that every animal lover needs to buy and every parent needs to promote.

The Animal Fairy is the first children’s book in a series designed to teach children compassion at an early age. It seemed only natural for Animal Fairy Charities to begin publishing this appropriate and much needed series of books as one of its most valuable missions is to educate and engage children.

Most of the problems and issues today in regards to animal welfare come from individuals who lack compassion and are almost flat lined when it comes to a basic respect for life. Most groups that support animal welfare can tell you they spend a lot of time dealing with the outcome and aftermath of human individuals who were simply not given these tools at any point in their life. As animal neglect and abuse can be the result of this deep problem, it’s only logical to approach this subject in a positive manner and at the root. While Congress is home for the August recess, many members of Congress and candidates running for office use this time to host town hall meetings, attend civic events, political rallies, and meet with constituents at their in-district office.

During this time they are out talking to their constituents and this is a great opportunity to remind them how important HR503/S727 "The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act" is to you and to the American people.

A lot is at stake in the November elections. It is important that lawmakers and candidates remember the important role our horses play in our country. Please ask your Members of Congress to support the passage of HR503 and S727 "The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act". Any blockage of this legislation will have a devastating effect on our culture as we know it. EU countries are banning meat tainted by drugs that are commonly given to horses which include, antibiotics, wormers and bute. While horsemeat is not sold in the US, it is exported from Canada and Mexico to the EU and to Japan, where it is considered a delicacy. Many of the horses that are brutally slaughtered in Mexican and Canadian slaughter houses come from the US.

Help us end the suffering of our American Horses. How can a country that was built on the backs of our horses ignore the people who wish to give them the quality of life they deserve?

Please, Rise Up and make that meeting for the horses!
